Mrs. Beyersdorf and Mrs. Keup, School Counselors at Hillcrest/LEADS, recently coordinated field trips for all Kindergarten and 1st Grade students. These field trips were follow-up activities from Life Skills lessons about Career Exploration. Kindergarten students visited the Shawano County Library; they learned about the variety of careers within the library system and they received information about the summer reading program. As a bonus, Kindergarten students also toured the Police Department. School Resource Officer, Officer Tyler Thornborrow, provided a tour, shared a variety of careers such as detective, investigator, K9 officer, etc.., and taught the students about public safety. First Grade students visited the Shawano County Highway Department. They toured the large facility and learned about a variety of different careers. They learned about many different trucks, along with other equipment that is used on the roads. Students were also excited to see the large salt sheds and to stand on the big scale that's used to weigh the trucks. What an awesome experience for all! #ShawanoProud

Engineering Technology students took afloat before spring break with their self-designed cardboard and duct tape boats! 🛶💦 Students were given cardboard from local stores like; Senzigs and Box Drop, to create their designs. They were limited on the amount of duct tape they could use and the boats had to fit through the doorways from the classroom to the pool area. Students were provided a paddle to race from one end of the pool and back. Some boats never made it much past the landing while others were very successful and made multiple voyages around the pool! 👍 #ShawanoProud

The Shawano High School Metals and Welding classes built a log splitter during the Fall 2023 school year and finished it in February of 2024. 🪵 Students had the opportunity to machine various parts and weld the splitter together. It gave the students the chance to apply the skills they have learned in the Metals Shop to fabricate the project. The splitter has a 37-ton ram for splitting the wood with a 4-way wedge. It also has a hydraulic lifting arm to help lift the logs to be split. The 4-way wedge height adjusts hydraulically. Shawano High School metals shop would like to thank R and R Recyling for the metal donation to build the splitter. A special thank you to Jim at Hydraulic Repair Specialist for donating and helping with the hydraulic components. We could not have completed the project without the help from these community businesses. The metals shop is hoping to build and sell more of these log splitters in years to come! #ShawanoProud

Brener School held its annual Knowledge-a-Thon. About 100 Shawano High School students came over to quiz each student individually. Brener students study grade-level curriculum questions, collect pledges, and then earn incentives. 100% of the money raised goes back to the students at Brener School. KAT funds have been used to buy a book vending machine and birthday books, and fund field trips for all grade levels. KAT funds also bring in learning experiences for Brener such as musician Wade Fernandez, Opera for the Young, and a huge inflatable globe that students could go inside. Brener would like to thank the High School administrators and students for helping us accomplish this great feat. Talk about showing Hawk Pride! ❤️🖤 #ShawanoProud
