Overview
The Shawano Community School District Board of Education approved a capital referendum on the November 5, 2024 ballot. Through a series of Board workshops held between May and August 2024, the Board of Education considered the relevant facts and updated its facility improvement plan. To be implemented, it requires a successful referendum approved by the voters.

What is the cost to the taxpayer?
The district again expects that an approved referendum will not increase taxes over the existing school tax mill rate. Because the District plans to pay off the debt from a 2015 referendum in the 2024-25 school year, the new referendum debt can be structured so that it will not add to the District tax mill rate.
What's happening at the Middle School?
The priority for the Middle School is protecting the investment until a long-range plan for that facility can be developed. In this referendum request, it is requested to replace the middle school roof.
Other previous investments in the building are expected to last another 5-7 years. Therefore, the Board has committed to developing a long-range plan for the Middle School facility, to be implemented in 2031.
Sponsorship
The Shawano School District is initiating a campaign to seek individual support for upcoming projects which have high visibility in our community. This opportunity to show support for our schools and students comes with special recognition.
Goal: The goal of this campaign is paying the cost of upgrading from grass to synthetic turf on the new football/soccer field and paying the cost of adding an orchestra pit in the existing high school auditorium. These are currently budgeted as part of the November 2024 referendum. A successful campaign will lower the amount borrowed for the referendum. Sponsorship information
